Unlike traditional blood glucose monitoring, you can get your glucose reading without painful finger pricks with the FreeStyle Libre 2 system.

Additionally, the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor is made by a process which means the sensitivity of the sensors vary very little. This means that it is calibrated at the factory - so you don’t need to calibrate it again using a finger prick.

It continuously measures the glucose concentration in your interstitial fluid, and stores 8 hours of data.

The FreeStyle Libre 2 Sensor can be worn for up to 14 days whilst you shower, bathe, swim, exercise or play.

TRADITIONAL BLOOD GLUCOSE TESTING OR FLASH GLUCOSE MONITORING?

Finger prick blood glucose readings and sensor glucose readings won’t always match and in fact are likely to be different.

Sensor glucose readings come from the interstitial fluid (ISF), a thin layer of fluid that surrounds the cells of the tissues below your skin.

The FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor glucose reading may lag behind a finger prick blood glucose reading by about 2.1 minutes for children and about 2.4 minutes for adults.
